Whitehead 5 Mile

Raymond Ruck, Rodney Livingstone, and George Buckley proudly represented Ballymena Runners at the Whitehead 5 Mile Road Race on Easter Monday.

Tackling the notoriously hilly course with determination and strong running, all three rose to the challenge and did the club proud!

Well done, lads – great to see the Ballymena blue out on the roads over the Easter Weekend.

BRAC Take On Maiden City 5K!

On Wednesday evening, 11 athletes from Ballymena Runners took part in the City of Derry Spartans Bay Road 5K. The course, known for being flat yet twisty, featured a few well-marshalled bollards to keep things interesting. With perfect running conditions, the team delivered a strong performance—highlighted by three personal bests!

Leading the BRAC contingent was the ever-consistent Kieran Scullion, crossing the line in 16:22. He was closely followed by Brendan Kerr, who clocked an impressive 16:50 (PB), and Ian McCracken with a solid 17:48 (PB).

Robert Clyde also had a standout evening, finishing in 18:33 (PB), while Tony Scullion acted as pacer with precision, matching Robert's time. Other notable performances included:

  • Mark McCaul – 19:23

  • Cherith Wright – 19:36

  • Paula Worthington – 20:09

  • Paul Connolly – 20:14

  • Geraldine Quigley – 20:29

  • John Donnelly – 21:00

Slieve Martin 'Hill n Dale' - Thursday 24th April

On Thursday evening, the Chuckle Brothers continued their Mournes crusade with a trek to Kilbroney Forest Park for week 3 of the ‘Hill n Dale’ series.

This week’s challenge took the runners 4 miles across the rugged slopes of Slieve Martin, packing in a lung-busting 1,800 feet of elevation. Once again, both Nigel McClintock and William Fleck delivered strong performances, with Fleck securing yet another category result.

Thank you to Newcastle Athletic Club for hosting another well-organised event.

“To me, to you…” Well done, bros!

Ballymena Runners at the Friendly 5000s

Four Ballymena Runners made the trip to the Meadowbank Sports Arena to take part in the Friendly 5000s event, organised by Purvis Running.

There were four race groups on the day. First off was Michael Scott in the 23+ minute group, where he recorded a time of 26:47 in his first ever track event.

In the 20:30–23:00 minute group, Rodney Livingstone put in a strong performance, finishing in 22:45 — an impressive effort considering he had also completed the Whitehead race just a few days earlier.

The final two Ballymena runners competed in the sub-17:30 group. Jamie Scott clocked a time of 17:25 for his first track race, while Dale Kirkwood achieved a 17:35, marking a fantastic 42-second PB over 5000m.

All athletes were ably supported on the day by Ray.

Thank you to Purvis Running for organising a great event — they are planning to host another meet in around six weeks, offering a brilliant opportunity for even more runners to get involved.
