Wednesday Training
Wednesday training has a focus on building strength and speed at a variety of locations including Ballymena Showgrounds, Ecos Park, Sentry Hill and Portglenone Forest. This comprises a mix of trail, hill and speed work including interval training and track sessions.
Please check which group suits you best but as a broad rule of thumb the groups are:
Performance (suitable for sub 23 min 5k runners)
Development (suitable for sub 23 - 26 min 5k runners)
Foundation (suitable for 26+ min 5k runners)
Wednesday Training 16 - 30 July 2025 (Lurig Training)
Dates - 16 - 30 July 2025 (3 weeks)
Venue - Cushendall Car Park (beside the river)
Time - Meet 18.30
This 3-week block is primarily aimed at those entered for the Lurig Challenge Race, but all members are welcome, and it’s often a perfect introduction for beginners into mountain running.
There will be at least two pace groups to suit a range of fitness and experience levels, but you should be capable of running for at least 60 minutes.
Mandatory kit (for safety):
✅ Trail or mountain shoes
✅ Full body cover: hat, gloves, waterproof coat, and leggings
Participants without the required kit may be turned away by the leaders, for your own safety and that of the group. Mountain conditions can change quickly, and an injury may result in a long and cold wait.
We also recommend bringing:
🧦 A full change of clothes
☕ A warm drink for afterwards
