A successful week for our road, trail and Cross Country racers and ROTG cheque goes to Turning Point NI

Sperrin Harriers Winter League

The final round of Sperrin Harriers Winter League had a last minute change of venue due to recent storm damage at Drum Manor seen five club members return to the scenic Lough Fea for a two and half loop of the Lough.

Another strong performance from Jason Wilson seen him finish fifth overall. Nena Cormican just missed a podium position by one second in fourth in the ladies race. Mandy Gregg finished the series taking a place in the ladies top ten with a sub 50 run. Bringing the club members home with a push to the end was Pablo McClurkin with a sub 50 and Stewart Rosborough at his first Sperrin Trail race just missing the elusive sub 50.

Jason Wilson 36.39 , Nena Cormican 42.31 , Mandy Gregg 48.44 , Pablo mcClurkin 49.49, Stewart Rosborough 50.15. Thanks go again to Sperrin Harriers for a well run race series, great hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere

Stormont Cross Country

Stormont Cross Country was our last target cross country race of this season.

Conditions were mild with short muddy sections underfoot and plenty of ups and downs. Six of the team had raced hard in Armagh just 40 hours earlier so extra kudos for turning out again for our club today.

The first race was 3.3 miles over 3 laps and Geraldine Quigley led the club home in a very good position in her age category. The women behind her were Claire Ramsey, Lois Thompson, Gemma Clyde, Susanna Allen and Brigid Quinn winning age group. The race was won by Elisoa Crawford of North Belfast Harriers.

M60s and over ran in the same race, Raymond Ruck was first finisher, followed by Ray Curran, third in age group, David Rainey and Sam Jackson. Norman Mawhinney, Scrabo Striders won the men’s race before setting out again in the next race.

The final race of the day was the younger men facing an extra lap and 4.4 miles. Brendan Kerr was first home followed by Darren Walker, Robert Clyde and Paul Thompson. Craig McMeehan of North Down AC won the race.

A special shout out for Lois and Paul Thompson donning spikes for the first time, hoping you’ll be back next season.

Thanks to our supporters today and good luck to our men’s team heading to the NI & Ulster Seniors in Carndonagh next weekend.
