Our response to St. Patrick's Barracks  Draft Development Proposal

Ballymena Runners is a well established and highly successful local athletics club that fully reflects the local community and promotes equality of opportunity between all Section 75 groups.

Ballymena Runners has a proven track record of commitment to promoting the social and health benefits of running to our local community.

To achieve this aim Ballymena Runners for a number of years has delivered a nine week "Cosy sofa to 5K programme" based on a well-established formula that is endorsed by the relevant sporting federations and the NHS.

To date we have organised 10 Cosy Sofa programs with 1200 graduates in the past 5 years. We now aim to provide 3 programs per year.

The sessions have been organised in different local communities to encourage uptake and to promote community awareness. These sessions have been delivered in partnership with the community organisations, residents groups, local youth clubs, and the Council’s Inter Ethnic Forum

We have developed strong links with, and have helped, various community based organisations, and a number local schools that make up the Ballymena Learning Together group.

Ballymena Runners welcomes this Draft Development Proposal and wishes to express our interest in being a partner organisation in the proposed development of the St. Patrick's site.
